I say this because I know what I am planning for you,” says the Lord. “I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I will give you hope and a good future.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NCV)

I play Bunco once a month with a group of friends from church. One of the reasons I like it is that it is a mindless game. There is no way to assure that I will win or lose. It is all based on the throw of the dice. One member mentioned that she planned her strategy, and I wonder how she does it. I enjoy the freedom to meet new people without having to work at a conversation or plan my next move.

I have recently joined a group of ladies in my complex who play cards — Hand and Foot. This is the opposite of Bunco. I need to know what I am doing to help my partner win the game. They are very patient with me as I learn the rules and strategy of the game, but it is more of a challenge than a relaxing occupation.

Life has been a challenge this year as I find new ways to walk alone. I have the choice to let the dice fall and whatever happens, happens. Or I can try and strategize and figure it out on my own. I have found that waiting on God is the best way to travel these new paths before me. He knows me best and has plans for my future that I could never imagine.

Many days are long and quiet. But a text or email brings a new opportunity to meet, listen, and encourage another one of His children. My task is to be available. He knows my future.
